Cooler weather sticking around, but not to bad of an end to the week
October 16, 2020 Morning Forecast
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - After the chilly start, today will end out being a halfway decent day. We’ll see partly to mostly sunny skies as temperatures warm up to near or just a little below average. Highs will range from the upper 50s northeast to the mid 60s southwest. West winds will start to increase this afternoon as they become more southwesterly at 10 to 20 mph. Winds will stay a bit breezy out of the south and southwest at 10 to 20 mph as a warm front lifts through the area. This will keep temperatures elevated tonight with lows mainly in the 40s.
Saturday will bring a brief warm up as another cold front passes through during the morning hours. This is very similar to what we saw back on Wednesday. Highs on Saturday could range from the mid 50s northwest to the mid 70s southeast. Winds will start to increase out of the north and northwest in the afternoon after the cold front passes through. This will start to bring falling temperatures during the afternoon. Temperatures will continue to drop quickly Saturday night. By Sunday morning, low temperatures will be down into the mid 20s northwest and the mid 30s southeast. With the cold air will come our next chance for moisture Saturday night. Rain with mix with, then change to snow as it moves from north to south. The chances are greater in the northern half of Nebraska. While snow amounts should mostly be under an inch, a few forecast models hint at a narrow band of snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches for parts of the Sandhills into Central Nebraska.
Sunday will be a much chillier day as a little light moisture might linger around early in the morning. Otherwise, look mostly cloudy skies to become partly cloudy later in the day. High temperatures on Sunday will mostly likely only be in the 40s. There’s another small chance for some light snow Sunday night, but mainly in Northern Nebraska. Beyond that, there may be some other small chances through the middle of the week, but there is too much forecast model inconsistency to give a good precipitation forecast. As for temperatures, they’ll slowly start to rebound through the middle of the week. On Monday, we’ll see upper 40s northeast to lower 60s southwest. Tuesday through Thursday will feature a blend of 50s and 60s.
