HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Hastings Mayor Corey Stutte announced a new challenge for the community when it comes to their holiday shopping to help businesses who have been hit hard by the pandemic.

“To encourage people to shop local, I am announcing the launch of the Shop Hastings Challenge,” Stutte said. “Over the past few years, we have seen our retail sales decrease in Hastings during the month of December and COVID-19 will impact that even more. To help make up some of that difference for our local businesses, I am challenging our community to spend at least $1.5 million above and beyond what we usually spend shopping locally through the end of December.”

To track spending, people are encourage to enter how much they spent at Hastings stores and restaurants here.

“We also want you to share your Hastings shopping experiences with your friends and family on social media. Our small businesses need your help! Please join the challenge today, by shopping local and logging your purchases through this simple form!”
