Get ready for the wind to kick up a bit more

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Winds will be increasing this morning, eventually getting up to around 15 to 25 mph out of the south southeast. Some gusts may get over 30 mph. Much of the area will be stuck under clouds, especially in the morning. In the afternoon, there will be some clearing in the west. Farther east there may be a few breaks in the clouds, but there will be a chance of some afternoon spotty showers and isolated thunderstorms in the eastern half of the area. Temperatures will top out in the mid 70s for many, but possibly upper 70s to near 80° out west where some afternoon sunshine is expected.

There will be a chance of some strong to severe thunderstorms this evening in far western portions of the Local4 viewing area closer to the Colorado border. Large hail and strong wind gusts will be possible. For the rest of the area, there will be a bit more clearing this evening, but clouds will fill back in later in the night and into tomorrow morning. Lows tomorrow morning will drop back into the upper 50s and low to mid 60s from west to east. Winds will remain breezy overnight at 12 to 22 mph out of the south southeast.

Friday will start off with some clouds, but as the morning goes on, sunshine will return to a large part of the area. Meanwhile, winds are expected to be strong out of the south southeast at 15 to 30 mph with gusts as high as 35 to 40 mph. By the evening, new thunderstorms may fire up in Western Nebraska, possible clipping the far western portions of the Local4 viewing area will a small chance of some severe weather. Otherwise, clouds will be on the increase Friday night into Saturday morning. Highs on Friday will be noticeably warmer in the low to mid 80s. Lows Friday night will be mainly in the 60s.

Saturday will feature a few more clouds than Friday, but enough sun to get to the upper 70s and low to mid 80s. Winds will still be a bit breezy at 10 to 20 mph. There is a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms Saturday afternoon and Saturday night. The best chance will be in our northwest. Sunday features another slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Winds will again be quite breezy. It’ll again be in the low to mid 80s for highs.

High temperatures on Monday will be back to the upper 70s and low to mid 80s as a cold front to our northwest moves in over our area and stalls out. This could brings us a better chance of showers and thunderstorms Monday afternoon and Monday evening. There may be a bit better chance for some severe weather. Storms may also be slow-moving, so locally heavy rainfall could be an issue.

There may still be a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday, but the better chance may move to our southeast. Meanwhile, highs will reach the upper 70s and lower 80s. Wednesday will likely be dry with highs in the mid to upper 70s. The chance for rain and thunderstorms will return Wednesday night.
