CHI Health St. Francis teaches car seat safety
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Installing a car seat can be very confusing and CHI Health St Francis staff wants to help parents learn to do it correctly.
“It’s very easy to install it incorrectly,” NICU and Labor Delivery Nurse Shawnee Williams told Local4 News. “It all depends on your car and also on your car seat and how they work together. So it’s very important to make sure you look at the manual of the car as well as the manual of the car seat.”
The hospital hosted a clinic on Monday in the hospital’s parking lot for both new and soon-to-be parents. If the child was already born, nurses would measure them to ensure they fit properly in their seats. Then they would check to make sure the seat itself was installed correctly.
They also encouraged people to stop by if their child hasn’t been born yet.
“It’s one thing to check off your list that you don’t have to worry about once your baby is born,” Williams said. “Plus when you come to the hospital to have the baby, you’re going to be leaving with that baby in that car seat. So go ahead and come to install that car seat before the baby is born and it’s one less thing to worry about on your way home.”
Williams also said if you missed Monday’s event, you can stop by the hospital anytime and a nurse can come out to check on your car seat.
