HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - A cold front is making its way through the region this afternoon. While this front will not bring any cooler air to the area, it will bring a drop in dew points as the day goes on. So humidity should become more comfortable later today other than far southeastern parts of the area. High temperatures will still reach the low to mid 90s across the area. With the humidity still high in the southeast, heat index values will still get over 100° there. Outside of just a couple of clouds along the front, it’ll still be mainly sunny. The front is also bring a shift in the wind direction as they become more northerly, then easterly as the day goes on. Any thunderstorms that do fire up would be this evening in the extreme southeast part of the Local4 viewing area. For the rest of the area, skies will remain mostly clear. With the lower dew points, it’ll be a little cooler tonight with lows in the 60s to around 70° in Southeast Nebraska.

For Thursday, another cold front will be sinking south through the area. Unlike today’s front, this one will actually bring some cooler air to the area. Highs tomorrow will range from the mid 80s north to the mid 90s in the south. Through the early afternoon, skies will be partly to mostly sunny and it will remain dry. By the mid to late afternoon, a few showers and thunderstorms will develop. They are expected to continue into tomorrow night and might linger into early Friday morning. The main chance will be across Southern Nebraska and Northern Kansas. Some isolated severe storms will be possible.

There may still be a few showers and isolated thunderstorms around on Friday, mainly in the morning. But the bigger storm will be the more comfortable temperatures as highs temperatures will be in the upper 70s and low to mid 80s. A few chances for showers and thunderstorms will stick around this weekend as temperatures remain on the more comfortable side of things. Highs will still mostly be in the low to mid 80s for Central and Eastern Nebraska. But farther west, we’ll start to see some upper 80s and even lower 90s as the weekend goes on. That warmer air will continue to build into the area early next week. We’ll see quite a few 80s on Monday and Tuesday, but with more low/mid 90s out west. Those two days look a little drier with some breezier winds.
