HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) -- Showers have moved east of the Tr-cities. We will see skies gradually clear through the night here in south central Nebraska. Clouds and a few light showers will persist overnight to the east of highway 81. Winds will remain breezy out of the northwest at 10 to 20 mph. We’ll see lows from the upper 30s west to the mid 40s east. Eastern areas will see clearing skies as the day goes on. Meanwhile, the rest of the area will enjoy plenty of sunshine. Temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 50s. The big problem on Thursday is that winds will be very strong out of the north northwest. We’ll see winds of 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Thursday night, the entire area will see clear skies, but winds will only slowly die down. Otherwise, it would probably get colder. But lows will drop to between the upper 20s west to around 40° in the east.

The end of the week will be the most enjoyable part of the forecast. After the chilly start to the day, sunny skies will warm things up into the upper 50s and low to mid 60s on Friday. More importantly, winds will be much lighter. With clear skies, lows will mostly be in the 30s Friday night into Saturday morning. Saturday will still be mild, but winds will turn breezy as a cold front moves through from the north. Highs will range from the upper 50s north to the upper 60s south. Skies should be sunny much of the day. Clouds will be on the increase Saturday night as the colder air dives southward. Temperatures will drop down into the upper 20s and low to mid 30s Sunday morning.

Sunday will be much cooler with mostly cloudy skies. There could be some light rain and/or snow by later in the day as it slowly moves from north to south. The chance of snow is better west and lower east, but will be more likely into Sunday night. Highs on Sunday will only be in the 40s, so don’t anticipate nice weather for the trick-or-treaters on Halloween evening. The light moisture (rain/snow) will continue pushing southward Sunday night into Monday. Temperatures will be quite chilly Monday morning, starting the day in the mid to upper 20s and lower 30s. As the moisture moves south during the day Monday, skies will remain mostly cloudy. Temperatures will remain chilly as highs will only be in the low to mid 40s on Monday. Monday night will be another cold night with some clearing. Lows will be in the 20s across the area. At this point, the entire area will see an end to the growing season. Tuesday will be another chilly day under partly cloudy skies with highs in the 40s.
