HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Skies have been clearing up during the early morning hours, which will lead to a mostly sunny day for much of the area. Later in the day, we’ll start to see some high clouds moving in from the west. This will be the best day for our area for a week...at least. Won’t won’t be terribly strong, maybe a little over 10 mph at times. Cloud cover will be thickening up from the west tonight. They will also be moving in from the southeast as moisture advects northward into our area. There could be some patchy drizzle after midnight for parts of Central and Eastern Nebraska. Meanwhile, farther west, some light showers will start to move into Western Nebraska after midnight. By sunrise Wednesday, these showers will start to move into Central Nebraska. They will continue to progress eastward during the day Wednesday as a cold front makes it’s way through the area. The chance for rain on Wednesday looks greater the farther east you go and it’s likely those area will also see the higher rainfall totals when the rain ends. The showers will end sometime around mid to late afternoon in the Tri-Cities area, but may linger in Eastern Nebraska through the early evening. Temperatures will be cooler with the clouds and rain in the area. Highs will range from the upper 40s north to the mid 50s south. As the cold front comes through, winds will turn out of the northwest and be rather blustery at 15 to 25 mph with gusts at times over 30 mph. Skies will be clearing up overnight Wednesday night. Winds will remain breezy out of the northwest at 10 to 20 mph. Temperatures will drop back into the upper 20s and low to mid 30s by Thursday morning.

Quite a bit of sunshine will return on Thursday, but it will be a chilly and blustery day. High temperatures on Thursday will range from the mid 40s northwest to the mid 50s south. Winds will be out of the northwest at 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph. Colder air will move in on another windy and mostly sunny day Friday. High temperatures on Friday will range from the mid 30s northeast to around 50° southwest. Northeast Nebraska may also see some light snow, but with strong winds, that could cause some problems.

Over the weekend, temperatures will recover some, but will be wide-ranging. Highs on Saturday will range from the mid 40s east to the mid 60s west. There will be some clouds around, especially later in the day. In fact, there could be some light moisture (mainly rain) Saturday night into early Sunday morning. Highs on Sunday will range from the upper 40s northeast to around 60° southwest. Winds will be fairly breezy. More wide-ranging temperatures are expected on Monday as mostly sunny skies return. Highs will be anywhere from the mid 40s northeast to the lower 60s southwest. We may get one warmer day next Tuesday as much of the area gets highs into the 60s.
