GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - On Friday, Grand Island businesses are joining forces in an event to bring together their interns.

Lutz, Goodwill Industries, Chief, CMBA, Hornady, AMUR Financial, GIX Logistics and Olsson interns are attending a summer networking event called ‘Why GI?.’

The plan is for the employees to connect with one another during a tailgate-style event in Railside. Part of the event includes attending the ‘Hear GI’ concert.

Sheana Smith, human resources specialist for Lutz said, there’s a reason holding events like these are essential to businesses.

“Just like many communities in this area, workforce is a challenge for our companies and so, teaming up to be able to have this event kind of enhances one of the best things about working in this community and that is the network that you create,” Smith told Local4 News.

This is the second year of the event and Smith said the number of companies involved have greatly increased from the first time around.

Food, drinks, and yard games will be provided to event participants.

Smith said the companies are also partnering up in Why GI? as an opportunity to showcase the city and all it has to offer.
