Police investigating a burglary at Wave Pizza Co.
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Wave Pizza Company staff are working to recover from a burglary, adding to other hardships already on their plate. The 20+ year old establishment was broken into around 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
Owner Brent Lindner recalls the moment he found out.
“I go in on my computer to look at the data and write stuff down for the accounts and all that,” Lindner told Local4 News. “I noticed it wasn’t connecting to our POS system here and I was like, ‘OK, something’s up.’”
He immediately headed over to his restaurant to find out the register was stolen, along with around $1,500 in cash. On top of the cash being stolen, Lindner said its also going to cost a few hundred dollars to replace equipment and repair damages made during the break in.
“In the scheme of things, you know, $2,500 — how much is it, but in the restaurant business right now, its a lot of money,” he noted.
Lindner said the suspect is likely a former employee, saying the suspect had to have known where specific items were that had been stolen.
The burglar is believed to have accessed the building through a window on the outdoor patio.
The theft makes for only one of the hardships Wave Pizza Co. has experienced in recent months. Lindner said there have been ongoing staffing issues and it’s been difficult to keep with the rising costs of goods.
“Prices have doubled, tripled and its very hard,” he said. “So, when something like this happens you’re like, ‘Oh, nice. So, it’s just been very emotional.”
Lindner added that he has been working with law enforcement to determine who exactly the burglar is.
