Hastings College women’s basketball fall short to Bellevue
HASTINGS, Neb. (Press Release) - The Hastings College women’s basketball team lost its second straight game as Bellevue came in a defeated them 72-54 inside Lynn Farrell Arena.
It was a slow start for the Lady Broncos as the Bruins jumped out to an 11-4 lead as Jina Douglas called a timeout with 2:46 to go in the first quarter. Hastings came out of the timeout and worked the ball to Carley Leners for the jumper but Bellevue countered with an Ashtyn Arnold layup to make it 13-6 with 2:15 left in the first.
The Lady Broncos came right back as Olivia Kugler drove to the hoop for the layup to make it 13-8 and then with less than a minute left in the quarter, Sarah Treffler buried a three as Hastings trailed 13-11 after one quarter.
In the second quarter, the Bruins built the lead to 11 at 29-18 but Treffer drained another three followed by a three from Katharine Hamburger to make it 29-24 with 1:26 left in the first half. But the Bruins would take a nine point lead into the halftime break.
Hastings would only be able to get as close as eight the rest of the way as Bellevue pulled away for the 18 point win.
Allison Bauer led the way with 11 points off the bench while Treffer added a career high 10 points on 3-for-8 shooting including 2-for-5 from behind the arc. Kugler added six points as did Dawson Knode.
For the game, Hastings shot just 29 percent (18-for-62) and just 22.7 percent (5-for-22) from downtown. Bellevue finished the game shooting 49.1 percent (26-for-53) and 42.9 percent (6-for-14) from behind the arc. Hastings won the rebounding game 42-to-38.
Hastings falls to 3-4 (1-2) on the year and will be back in action Friday Dec. 2 hitting the road to take on Jamestown with tipoff set for 5:00 pm in Jamestown, ND.
